Liverpool vs. Chelsea: Preview, Confirmed Lineup

The nerves are biting for Liverpool and Chelsea fans ahead of kickoff time at Anfield in their first match-up this season in the Premier League.

There are so many new narratives this time around as the Reds and the Blues face off on equal footing with new managers at the helm to push forward the rivalry between these two great teams.

For Chelsea, there is the underlining subplot of revenge following last season’s defeat to Liverpool in back-to-back games that culminated with both a cup final defeat and a 4-1 humiliation at same ground in Jurgen Klopp’s final season with the Reds.

However, for Liverpool, there is only the need to build upon the momentum they were on prior to the international break, with Chelsea now the biggest test they will face so far this season.

With 6-wins from 7, bar the 0-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on the same ground, Arne Slot’s team look to be continuing the spirited form Klopp’s team were on last season that placed them in title challenging form until the latter stages of the league. Chelsea likewise, have built themselves some form in their run of games, creating high scoring narratives against Wolverhampton Wanderers and just recently against a formidable Brighton and Hove Albion, with their only defeat coming against Manchester City in matchday 1.

At the moment, only 4-points separates the Blues from the Reds, points which Chelsea can recover if they manage a win against Liverpool. However, the Merseyside team can elongate those points to 7 if they come out victorious against their London visitors.

For now, the West Londoners sit 6th with a game in hand and could move as close as 3rd or 2nd depending on the outcome of this game and the game between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City.

Liverpool versus Chelsea is never a boring affair, and there is no doubt this game will be the first, but will it live to the hype both teams have built this season? Or will they falter to impress?

That depends on what both managers; Arne Slot and Enzo Maresca come out with and what their lineups achieve at full-time.

Here goes the Confirmed Lineup for both sides;
