Liverpool should hire Gary O'Neil to replace Klopp -- Troy Deeney

In the wake of Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure from Liverpool at the end of the season, Watford striker Troy Deeney has offered his suggestion for a potential successor to the highly successful German coach.

Klopp’s announcement in January to take a sabbatical after nine years of remarkable achievement at Anfield has prompted Liverpool to begin the search for his replacement.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Deeney put forward Gary O’Neil as a candidate to take over the managerial reins at Liverpool when Klopp eventually departs.

Deeney emphasized the challenge of following in Klopp’s footsteps, noting the high expectations and winning culture he leaves behind at Liverpool. He suggested that the next leader at Anfield would need to possess a specific type of character to navigate the transition smoothly.

“Inheriting people who are used to winning, they are all internationals. It is a good one but also it can be a real big shoe to fill, so you’ve got to be a certain type of character,” Deeney remarked.

“I’m going to throw a name at you, I think they [Liverpool] need a coach next year more than a manager, so I’m going to say Gary O’Neil,” he added.

Gary O’Neil is presently serving as the head coach of Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
