Liverpool Need A Right-Back — Jamie Carragher

Liverpool need a Right-Back, and it isn’t Trent Alexander Arnold, Jamie Carragher fires after the 6-2 defeat to Real Madrid.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged the club to replace right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, stating that the England international needs help. Carragher admitted that Alexander-Arnold may never be “good enough” defensively, and has been heavily criticized this season as his defensive contribution continues to drop.

Liverpool were dumped out of the Champions League on Wednesday night with a 6-2 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid, with Alexander-Arnold having a torrid evening against Vinicius Jr at the Bernabeu.

“What’s happened this season with him lacking defensively can’t continue,” Jamie Carragher told CBS Sports.

“The problem they have got in that position is they have never had real competition. And one of the reasons why is because he has been so good. Liverpool are at the point now where they have got to go and buy a right-back. He needs help.”

Alexander-Arnold, who has shone as one of the best right-backs in world football, has played an integral role in Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp. However, his form this season has been questioned, and Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool need to bring in a quality right-back to push Alexander-Arnold to improve his defensive abilities.

The 2022/23 season has certainly not been it for Liverpool, and for one particular man, Trent Alexander Arnold, it has gone from worse to terrible, with the Liverpool born star always on the receiving end of every defensive mishap in the back four.
The Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group have promised to fund a rebuild at the end of the season ahead of the 2023/24 season, hence it will be interesting how far the club can go to improve on its situation.
However, it will be shocking if the club fails to act on the Trent Alexander Arnold situation this summer following the criticisms that the Right-Back has been faced with this season.
