Liverpool Losses Ex-Player

It is often considered a taboo to cross the Merseyside divide of Liverpool and Everton, but one player did during his time as a player and even scored for both teams against the other in the Merseyside derby. He was David Johnson, one of Liverpool’s lethal strike force during the era of Bob Paisley.

According to the club’s sources, the former striker, David Johnson has died, passing on at the age of 71.

Only two players have scored in the Merseyside Derby for both Everton and Liverpool, including the former England striker.

Bob Paisley’s Liverpool team, which dominated the 1970s by winning four league titles and three European Cups, included Johnson, who had previously played for Ipswich Town FC.

Reacting, Ipswich Town FC wrote in a tweet via its Twitter handle on Wednesday:

“The Club are saddened to report the passing of former striker David Johnson. David represented the Blues from 1972-1976. May he rest in peace. dies at 71.”

David Johnson holds the record of being part of a Liverpool team that led the line for Liverpool in Paris in the 1981 final against Real Madrid, which till date serves as the only European cup final the Spanish side has ever lost.

In former Liverpool player, John Aldridge’s tribute, he labeled the late 71 year old as:

“A fantastic character who made everybody smile and a brilliant striker for Liverpool Football Club”
