Liverpool live to survive Aston Villa scare

The Premier League with its drama at the dire end to the season is second to none.

In this league, there’s never a moment that isn’t dicey, especially when it comes to a title chase. Forget all the talks by Stevie G of not wanting to make the headlines by being the one to stop Liverpool’s title charge against City, the scouser came into the game with a game plan to hurt the Reds.

There were no sentiments, not even if it was Liverpool. Of course he may have used his words politically in his press conference about the game and his approach to the fixture, the former Liverpool Captain, came into the game with a game plan that could have hurt the Reds in the hardest way possible.

It started with a Douglas Luiz goal in the 3rd minute into kick off to give Aston Villa the lead going into the game. A goal that was sure to have caused some frantic reactions from the Liverpool fans in the stands and those that might have been watching from far away on the night.

The goal came off as a loose ball that the Liverpool players had mistaken for an offside only it wasn’t as it was bounced on by unmarked Douglas Luiz in a late scuffle that saw the goal hit the back of the net away from Liverpool goalie; Alisson Becker. A goal the Brazilian may recognize to have been somewhat similar to the one conceded against Tottenham on the weekend.

The whole game felt like the Spurs game initially, but unlike the weekend game, Liverpool had Joel Matip to thank for the quick equalizer 3 minutes after Douglas Luiz’s opener to send the game level on scores in half time, rather than late into the game, which could eventually have being problematic.

The Spurs game being a test the team very much needed and the Villa early goal being a wake up call, the Merseyside team tightened their defence in the second hour mark as they searched for an eventual winner.

The winner wouldn’t come until the 65th minute though, with Liverpool new star, Luis Diaz having something in part to do with.

The Colombian due to his pace, was able to slip through the Villa defence, create a chance to send a ball straight for in form Mane to head into the net, past Aston Villa goal keeper, Emiliano Martinez.

An early scare by Aston Villa expertly thwarted through grit and courage to gift Liverpool maximum points on the night and send the Reds level on points with City who in the moment stand with a game in hand.
