Liverpool linked with Benfica star Orkun Kokcu

Liverpool are reportedly targeting Benfica midfielder Orkun Kokcu, who has drawn comparisons to Real Madrid legend Luka Modric.

The news comes as Anfield bids an emotional farewell to manager Jurgen Klopp, whose successful tenure concluded with a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

Following weeks of speculation, it was confirmed on Monday evening that Dutchman Arne Slot will take over as Liverpool’s head coach on June 1. Slot’s appointment has fueled speculation about potential summer signings, with Kokcu emerging as a key target.

According to Turkish news outlet Fotospor, Liverpool’s interest in Kokcu stems from his previous working relationship with Slot at Feyenoord.

Orkun Kokcu, 23, enjoyed a standout season with Benfica, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists in 43 matches across all competitions.

Kokcu’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with a release clause of €150 million reportedly inserted into his contract when he joined Benfica in 2023. His playing style and potential have earned him comparisons to Modric, with former Liverpool, Juventus, and PSG midfielder Momo Sissoko praising his versatility and quality.
