Liverpool fans want pundit sacked after Mohamed Salah slander
Liverpool fans are very protective of their own, and when the potential of one of their key-players; Mohamed Salah most especially is put to ridicule, they would rise up in defense.
Fans were left fuming after a pre-match pundit dared to question the world class status of their Egyptian King, Mohamed Salah, just hours before he found the back of the net in a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town. Gary Gillespie, an Anfield legend from the 80s, sparked outrage with his controversial comments on LFCTV, suggesting Salah isn’t truly world class despite his staggering stats.
Gillespie, a European Cup winner who spent nearly a decade with the Reds, made the eyebrow-raising claim during the build-up to Liverpool’s Premier League opener.

Liverpool: Arne Slot speaks up on his ruthless decision
“We talk about Mohamed Salah being a world class footballer – is he a world class footballer? I don’t think he is, but his stats suggest that he is, because his stats are through the roof,” Gillespie stated.
The comments did not sit well with Liverpool’s loyal fanbase, who took to social media to slam the pundit’s take. One fan didn’t hold back, tweeting, “Calling the best player in Prem history not a world class footballer on live television should get u sacked the same day.” Another supporter echoed the sentiment, pointing out, “There’s nobody out there I would swap Salah for!”
Fans were quick to highlight Salah’s incredible consistency since joining Liverpool in 2017. With 212 goals in 350 appearances and a trophy cabinet that includes the Premier League, Champions League, and more, Salah’s legacy at Anfield is undeniable.
Yet Gillespie’s remarks seemed to question the very essence of what defines a world class player, leaving fans frustrated by what they saw as an unnecessary slight against their star man.
