Liverpool Football Club is reportedly going against manager Jurgen Klopp’s demand to offer James Milner a one-year contract extension, much to the approval of many fans.

James Milner, the vice-captain of the team, is due to be out of contract in the summer after having joined Liverpool in 2015 from Manchester City. The club’s need for a midfield overhaul in the summer transfer window, following a disappointing campaign, has sparked rumors of Milner’s departure.

Jurgen Klopp, however, is said to be advocating for Milner’s extension due to his leadership, experience, and versatility in playing both midfield and right-back positions.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Liverpool has not yet entered into contract negotiations with Milner. The delay has led to concerns that Milner may follow Roberto Firmino in leaving the club on a free transfer at the end of the season. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also set to leave Merseyside with their contracts due to expire at the end of the campaign.

Many Liverpool fans have expressed their approval of the club’s decision to go against Klopp’s recommendation to extend Milner’s contract.

Fans have been critical of Milner’s performances this season, with many believing that the 37-year-old is past his prime. Several supporters have voiced their desire for Jurgen Klopp to leave the club and allow Milner to go, stating that he has already overstayed his welcome by several years.

Liverpool is said to be looking for new midfield options in the upcoming transfer window. The club has been linked with Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham, although recent reports suggest that Liverpool is unlikely to pursue the young talent.

Despite this, former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has spoken highly of Bellingham, fueling speculation that the club may still pursue him in the future.
