Sad one for a Liverpool Centre-Back who never kicked a ball for Liverpool

Liverpool Centre Back of the 2020/21 Season departs the Club

The 2020/21 season was a very wrong one for Liverpool in every way bar the end of the season that saw the Merseyside club finish 3rd on the table eventually.

It was even more wrong for the players who became casualties of the terrible 2020/21 season; particularly for players who ended up as panic buys in a season plagued by numerous injuries.

One of such was Ben Davies who the club hastily bought from Preston early in the January transfer window of that season when the club’s senior centre backs were all ruled out for the season.

The player came in together with Schalke’s then defender, Ozan Kabak who compared to the former Preston defender had some luck as he played for the club.

For Davies, he sadly didn’t get the chance as injury promptly ruined his chances and when the following season came up, he sadly faced competition from the returning Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

It was even quite sad that Nathaniel Philips was far ahead of him in the pecking order.

The club had no choice but to send the player on loan to Sheffield United for a season, and his return to the club hasn’t quite yielded a positivity in regards to playing competitive minutes for Liverpool.

With Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk ahead of him, Ben Davies leaves the club with only one choice which is to sell the player.

The defender is set for a move to Scotland with Glasgow Rangers looking to replace him with exiting Nigerian international, Calvin Bassey for a sum of £4 million, a profit for the £2 million spent on signing the player from Preston.

The two pre-season outings for the player could have proved a chance to prove himself but sadly not ahead of the 4 Liverpool senior defenders or even Nathaniel Philips himself.
