Liverpool celebrate anniversary of Chelsea's win vs. Man City

When it comes to Chelsea, there really is no love lost between them and Liverpool, but on the 25th of June, 2020, it was love at long last between both clubs.

It was the day Frank Lampard’s led Chelsea side did the unthinkable to defeat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side to hand over the league to Liverpool on a platter that night, with roughly nine premier league games to go.

The Reds had been denied the premier league title for years, 30 years roughly by the top 6 sides in the league at various points in history, and just the year before by the same Manchester City side.

However, June 25th 2020, brought the Merseyside team peace at long last when Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for Chelsea, with Willian sealing the win in the closing minutes via a converted penalty kick to drown Manchester City in a 2-1 victory. History was made, reconciliation was made as Frank Lampard gave the Reds that which his side had denied them years earlier in 2014.

But where was the Liverpool team on the night of the victory? They were together, camped in a hotel despite the Covid 19 pandemic that had plagued that season. It was as if they knew what was going to happen, and prophecy had directed the Reds’ manager, Jurgen Klopp to bring together the boys for the watch along.

The Liverpool fans couldn’t celebrate the title with the team, but the players made up for it with their celebration.

The anticipation, the looks on Sadio Mane, Gini Wijnaldum, Allisson Becker, Mohamed Salah, Jordan Henderson, Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander Arnold’s face, and the proud dad moment for Jurgen Klopp could not be exaggerated.
