Liverpool and Klopp Set To Repeat Same Mistakes Made in 2020/21 Season

Liverpool have never been a straight forward club judging by recent times and from all looks, they seem to be set to repeat the same mistakes made in the 2020/21 season.

This is for the fact that the club has ignored the warning signs that they are thin in midfield, just like they were in defence when Dejan Lovren left for Zenit St. Petersburg.

And this comes after Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard gave the club some transfer advice that after the sides’ defeat to Real Madrid.

Liverpool and Klopp look set to make Aberdeen prospect Calvin Ramsey, the club’s final signing this summer after completing deals for Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho.

The Anfield club is said to have no plans to sign a midfielder this summer but will make it a priority the coming summer as they eye Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

This was the very mistake Liverpool and Klopp made in 2020/21 as Dejan Lovren left the club without any defensive replacement, the only signings made was with Thiago Alcantara who is a midfielder, and Diogo Jota who is a forward.

Now, in this transfer window, the club has made signings only in attack, with Calvin Ramsey set to be a Right Back cover for Trent Alexander Arnold as academy product, Neco Williams looks set to depart.

It is something of interest when we consider that Liverpool’s midfield contain of mostly injury prone players or inconsistent players who can’t go on lengthy run of games with consistent performances.

There is Fabinho Tavares, Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, all of whom either have injury problems or are somewhat inconsistent.

Then there is the ageing James Milner who always isn’t in peak condition as seen from last season when he barely could contain the pace of Manchester City’s Phil Foden, and was lucky to not be red carded in the game.

Like the 2020/21 season, Liverpool and Klopp will hope to depend on youngsters in Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot should an injury crisis in midfield repeat itself, or possibly bring in Trent Alexander Arnold into Midfield.

This definitely ignores Steven Gerrard’s warning when he spoke as a pundit after the Champions League final defeat.

He said:

Liverpool and Klopp Set To Repeat Same Mistakes Made in 2020/21 Season

“Jordan Henderson and James Milner are not getting any younger. They’re still top players at this level, of course, and they’ll want to go on and do more. But for Liverpool, if you think about the next five, six, seven years, they’re going to need a midfielder, an eight, who can get goals, who can get double figures.

“They are heavily reliant on the front three — or the front five if you include Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino. You always need one of those midfielders that’s going to get in the box and get you goals.”

Considering the Liverpool midfielders who offer in goals aside the front 3 are only Naby Keita and Oxlade Chamberlain; whose own future at the club isn’t certain, then Liverpool obviously will be lucky to make a top 4 finish if the plan is to repeat same old system, a 5th time consecutively.
