Lewandoski: Guardiola played a role in me joining Barcelona

Former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski has revealed Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola contributed to his move to the Catalan giants, Barcelona this summer.

Speaking in an interview with Diario Sport, Robert Lewandowski said the philosophy of Guardiola which developed him into becoming the player he was now, still is a part of Barcelona, which was one of the reasons he chose to join the side.

The Poland international recently joined the La Liga club on a 4 year deal after seeing off an 8 year spell with Munich.

Though he is yet to be a registered player for the Catalans, he had quite the words to say on his move to Barcelona.

“Guardiola’s philosophy and his style for caring for and managing the team was like bringing Barcelona to Bayern Munich.

“Xavi is very similar to Guardiola. They were both sixes and they worked together. They think about football in the same way. With that in mind, Barcelona was the only option for me. It was great preparation.

“I didn’t talk to Guardiola before signing. But when I was with him at Bayern it was like a great preparation to come to Barcelona one day.

“All the staff were Spanish and there were eight Spanish players. During that period I had a very good relationship with Thiago and Javi Martinez. Both of them congratulated me when I signed for Barcelona.” He said.
