"Let Them Have the Points'!" — Troost-Ekong blasts Libya

Libya seem to have taken the mind games a bit too far and Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong is out on Twitter firing shots.

Tensions are boiling over ahead of Super Eagles clash versus Libya in the AFCON qualifiers as the Nigeria national team are left stranded at an airport in the country a day to the game.

Captain William Troost-Ekong took to Twitter to blast the Libyan government for its deliberate mistreatment of Nigeria’s national team, ahead of Tuesday’s AFCON qualifying clash.

Following striker Victor Boniface’s earlier outcry about the 13-hour airport ordeal, Troost-Ekong confirmed the team’s harrowing experience, accusing Libya of mind games designed to unsettle the squad.

Troost-Ekong didn’t hold back: “12+ hours in an abandoned airport in Libya after our plane was diverted whilst descending… They’ve locked the airport gates and left us without phone connection, food or drink.” He also raised safety concerns, rejecting the idea of road travel under such hostile conditions, saying, “Let them have the points.”

The Super Eagles have been stranded since Sunday after Libyan officials diverted their plane from Benghazi to a remote airport, fueling suspicions of payback for Libya’s own logistical chaos in Nigeria during the first leg. With the team still in limbo, Troost-Ekong’s fiery response sheds light on the escalating diplomatic row, leaving fans wondering if this match will even take place under such hostile circumstances.

Is this a strategic ploy by Libya, or just a breakdown in communication? One thing’s for sure: this AFCON qualifier has turned into a battlefield—off the pitch!
