LAUTECH ranks 11th best varsity in Nigeria, 74th in Africa
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso in Oyo State, has been positioned the 11th best university in Nigeria and 74th in Africa.
The Public Relations Officer of LAUTECH, Lekan Fadeyi disclosed that the ranking was made by AD Scientific Index Limited, a leading worldwide ranking body situated in Turkey.
Fadeyi declared that the university was ranked as a leader among its peers in production of researchers.
He said information accessed on the website of the organisation equally positioned the university as the 74th in Africa, based on the performance of the university’s scholars.
Fadeyi said, “Among top scholars from the university are Prof. Agbaje Lateef, Prof. Olugbenga Bello and Prof. Abass Olajire, who were placed 32nd, 48th and 76th respectively in Nigeria.
“Lateef is from the institution’s Department of Pure and Applied Biology, while the duo of Bello and Olajire are from the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry.”
LAUTECH Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mojeed Liasu, lauded the scholars for their greater heights.
The acting VC was delighted that the scholars had steadily stayed among top most 100 scholars in Nigeria on the rankings from various organisations.
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology is an independent public institution with the general purpose of offering substantial higher education and inspiration to the rapid development of learning all through Nigeria.
The university runs three academic programmes which include pre-degree science programme, undergraduate programmes and post-graduate programmes. It is jointly owned by two states in Nigeria; Oyo and Osun states.
The entire student body population is currently about 20,000. For two consecutive seasons, 2003 and 2004, the university has been declared by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) as the best state university in Nigeria.
LAUTECH has two campuses which include Ogbomoso and Osogbo and is presently made up of six faculties and a college.
