Latest update on Pulisic injury after withdrawal from FA Cup final

Christian Pulisic has promised to be “back in no time” after the hamstring injury which forced him off the pitch in the FA Cup final.

The American had opened the scoring for Chelsea in Saturday’s behind closed doors final against Arsenal when he fired home after just five minutes of the match.

But it was the Gunners who fought back to win their 14th FA Cup thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brace either side of half-time.

Pulisic was carried off in the opening stages of the second half when he pulled a hamstring as he bore down on the Gunners goal.

Despite appearing to be in obvious pain, the former Borussia Dortmund man still attempted a shot at Emiliano Martinez’s goal before falling to the turf in agony and making a tearful withdrawal from the pitch.

Chelsea also saw Cesar Azpilicueta forced off with a hamstring injury in the first half, while winger Pedro, who had replaced Pulisic, suffered a shoulder injury in the closing moments of the match.

The injuries have left the Blues short of cover ahead of the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash against Bayern Munich next weekend, which they’ll enter 3-0 down from the first leg.

“I’m not thinking too much about [next week],” Blues boss Frank Lampard told BBC Sport after the match.

“We were below par. Two hamstrings, one dislocated shoulder, we lost Willian yesterday, [N’Golo] Kante was not fit for this game, it was only if we needed him and Ruben Loftus-Cheek was out.

“We’re at the end of a long season – it’s not an excuse, but it felt like it came to a tipping point a bit today.”

Pulisic issued an update on his condition on Sunday, posting a picture of himself celebrating his goal on Instagram.

He wrote: “Gave it everything we had. Wasn’t our day.. thank you guys for your support I’ll be back in no time.”
