The Lagos State University (LASU) has given its graduates a 2-week grace period for the collection of their certificates.

Adekoya Martins, the acting head, centre for information, press and public relations of the institution, made this known to the the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday — 17 days after the initial deadline lapsed.

LASU had on September 30 announced that 24, 734 certificates belonging to those who graduated from the school in the last 10 years, remained uncollected.

The institution had warned that any graduate who failed to collect the certificate before October 21 will pay ‎N15,000 as fine before collection.

According to Martins, the extension was approved due to the impressive compliance of graduates thus far.

“The N15,000 fine is to ensure that the graduates come forward to collect the backlog of certificates lying at the registry,’’ Martins said.

He noted that most of the uncollected certificates are not for recent graduates of two to three years ago, adding that those who failed to collect ”are mostly those who graduated 10 years and above ago’’. He further said that LASU, would henceforth, send a message to graduates as soon as their certificates are ready.
