LASTMA penalizes 52 vehicles for illegal parking in Lagos
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has penalized 52 commercial vehicles for illegal parking and operating unapproved garages in the Obalende and Iyana-Oworonsoki areas.
This initiative aims to improve traffic flow throughout Lagos, according to a statement by Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, released on Friday.
Adebayo mentioned that the vehicle owners will be prosecuted in a mobile court for their traffic violations. The operation, led by LASTMA Director of Operations Peter Gbegemede, was executed following directives from the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa.
Giwa highlighted that drivers of both commercial and private vehicles had been repeatedly warned by the government before the enforcement began.
“These operations will continue, underscoring the authority’s zero tolerance for indiscriminate parking and any obstacles to smooth traffic flow across Lagos,” Adebayo said.
He added that Giwa expressed concern over the disruptive activities of commercial bus operators, which significantly contribute to traffic congestion.
“To ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic for Lagosians during this festive season and beyond, 52 commercial vehicles were penalized for obstructing traffic at Obalende and Iyana-Oworonsoki.
The enforcement operations will persist, with a zero-tolerance policy for illegal garages and indiscriminate parking. We will also clear any roadblocks across Lagos,” he emphasized.
Motorists are encouraged to report any broken down or abandoned vehicles to LASTMA via the agency’s hotlines: 08100565860, 08129928490, 08129928515, and 08129928593.
