LASG seizes 91 bikes, deepens war against okada [PHOTOS]

The Lagos State Taskforce has impounded 91 motorcycles, popularly known as okada in a renewed onslaught to stop them from plying prohibited routes across the State.

 

The okadas were impounded at Cele Bus Stop, on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway on Friday. Okada is motorcycle serving as a taxi, with passengers sitting behind the driver.

“A total of 91 bikes were impounded when officers of the Lagos task force combed Cele- Mile 2 expressway earlier today.

“This is in line with the clampdown on motorcyclist plying routes restricted for motorcycle in Lagos,” the Taskforce said on its Instagram page.

The authorities said the ban was needed because of safety concerns. They said the motorbike taxis, known as okadas, and tricycles, called kekes, caused “death and disorderliness.

Lagos has experienced widespread disruption following a recent ban on motorcycle and tricycle taxis, popularly known as okada and keke Napep in the city. The ban went into effect on February 1 and prohibits drivers of those vehicles from using a number of routes in the city.
