The Lagos state government has informed the public that it is working to deploy technologies that will enable all-year farming season with the aim to achieve self sufficiency and security in food production in the state and country.
This was disclosed today by the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya, at a press briefing to herald the activities lined up to celebrate the year 2021 World Food Day in the state.
She said that the Covid19 pandemic has emphasized the need for an urgent change in the agricultural sector, hence, the state is working on various technologies that will enable farmers to farm all-year round.
She said that this year’s World Food Day Celebration theme- Our Actions are our Future: Better Production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment and Better Life– is apt as it shows the state government’s effort to make available to citizens varieties of sufficient, nutritious and safe food at affordable prices.
She explained how essential and important it is to increase investments in the agricultural sector in order to bridge the gap caused by low production and high importation of food in the state to improve food security, supply and production.
