Lagos to collaborate with NAPTIP on human trafficking – Sanwo-Olu
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has disclosed that the state will support the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to recover victims and arraign traffickers.
Sanwo-Olu, while receiving the Director-General of NAPTIP, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, at the Lagos House, Alausa, on Monday declared that the persistent trafficking in persons was a threat to the nation.
The Governor, in accordance with a statement said the state would support the agency in human capital resources and operation space to improve the response of the agency to the crime.
He said, “Human trafficking indeed presents a deadly trend in our society and we need to protect our citizens, especially the vulnerable in our communities. For those who have fallen victims, we must stand up and protect them.
“The support and collaboration which the NAPTIP has enjoyed from Lagos State Government could be strengthened. Through the Ministry of Woman Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, we have rendered support to NAPTIP in terms of human and material requirements for your zonal office.”
Suleiman-Ibrahim, while replying said Lagos stayed tactical in the battle against human traffickers, due to its closeness to global borders, which she stated made the state liable for trafficking activities.
