Lagos resident accuses GIG logistics, Standard Chartered of refund delay
Innocent Obaro, a Lagos resident, has accused God Is Good Logistics (GIGL) and Standard Chartered Bank of failing to refund his N23,000 payment for over six months, despite numerous attempts to resolve the issue.
Obaro, who paid for a package at GIG Logistics in Lekki on February 17 via their point-of-sale system, reported that he did not receive a debit alert or transaction confirmation until he tried to make another transfer to the logistics firm.
Upon checking his bank app, he discovered that Standard Chartered had debited his account, prompting him to inform the GIG attendant, expecting a swift resolution.
Standard Chartered initially confirmed the deduction and promised to resolve the issue within 24 hours via X (formerly Twitter). However, when the problem persisted, Obaro visited the bank’s office to lodge a formal complaint.
In June, Standard Chartered emailed Obaro, stating that they had contacted the acquiring bank and received confirmation that the POS transaction was successful.
The email outlined that the acquiring bank had provided the necessary documents, and as per regulations, Standard Chartered would not issue a refund since the transaction was validated by the acquiring bank.
Obaro then reached out to GIG Logistics, but the company claimed their account team had not received the funds.
FIJ contacted GIG Logistics for a response on Friday, and they requested that Obaro reach out directly, which he has done. Standard Chartered has not yet responded to FIJ’s inquiry.
