Lagos govt- With the help of Navy we’ll remove shanties at Amuwo-Odofin
The Lagos State Building Control Agency has partnered with the Nigerian Navy to remove shanties along Navy Gate in Oriade Local Council Development Area, at the Amuwo-Odofin area of the state.
This was mentioned in an official statement titled, ‘LASBCA partners Nigerian Navy to remove shanties In Ori-Ade LCDA’.
According to the statement, the exercise was a way of restoring the aesthetics of the environment and in compliance with the State Physical Planning laws.
The General Manager of the Agency, Gbolahan Oki, disclosed that over 80 illegal structures were removed during the exercise in order to restore normalcy to the area.
The statement read, “He lamented the rate at which some individuals continue to erect shanties along major roads without recourse to the State Physical Planning Laws and existing master plan designed for different areas of the State.
“Oki commended the partnership with the Nigerian Navy, describing it as a ‘timely intervention’ needed to make Lagos work and salvage it from environmental degradation.
“The General Manager also called on other relevant government agencies and organisations, especially other members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, to emulate the Nigerian Navy in safeguarding the lives and property of all Lagosians by supporting LASBCA in its efforts to rid the State of illegal infrastructure development.”
