Aribisala’s post initially attracted negative comments from several people who felt she was making a fuss over an “ordinary chicken”.
However, many were moved by her sincerity and gratitude especially at a time when people no longer appreciated little gifts.
The post went viral, attracting nearly 38, 000 likes and over 6,000 retweets.
In a subsequent tweet, Mrs. Aribisala said she decided to appreciate her husband because he was a security guard and had not been paid since 2016 but he still went out of his way to buy a Christmas gift for the family.
She tweeted, “I guess you all don’t know where this is coming from. My husband is a security guard working on contract. He has been working and he hasn’t received any salary since 2016. If you don’t know, he made my day. So stop dragging.”
Aribisala’s post began to generate reactions and attracted the attention of several popular Nigerians.
Before long, scores of Nigerians began commenting on Aribisala’s timeline, requesting for her bank account number so that they could also make their donations.
Music star, Simi, announced that she had gifted the lady N200, 000 for Christmas, a tweet which was acknowledged by Aribisala.
@Valhalla_X0 also made a donation of N100,000 which was acknowledged by Mrs. Aribisala. He also announced that his friend had made a separate donation of N10,000 which was acknowledged.
“God bless you and your loving Husband, and May God bless all those insecure idiots accordingly. I’m proud of your family and I’m going to support you and your husband with N100,000 tonight . Pay no heed to the naysayers and online bullies. Have a wonderful Christmas celebration,” he tweeted.
A businessman identified as @atobacool, also made a donation of N100,000 to Mrs. Aribisala while several others donated between N5,000 and N15, 000.
Speaking with journalists on Friday, the teacher said she never knew that her post would go viral and attract donations from well-meaning Nigerians.
She said indeed, things had not been too good financially but she only set out to appreciate her husband who had been trying to provide for the family since they got married two months ago.
“I really want to appreciate Nigerians. I am a teacher while my husband is a security guard. I wasn’t expecting anything from my husband because he had not been paid for a long time but he struggled to make me happy. I only went on social media to appreciate him but I didn’t know the tweet would attract so much attention. I am deeply grateful to Nigerians and I promise to invest this money wisely,” she said.
Nigerian singer, Simi has also asked for her account details.
