Labour party suffers major setback as presidential spokesperson dumps Obi

The Spokesman of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council in the North East, Muhammad Pantami, and other officials have announced their departure from the party.

The decision to leave the LP and its presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi was made due to concerns over internal democracy, tribalism, and godfatherism within the party.

Pantami and his supporters, who represent around four million voters in the North East states of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, and Borno, have now declared their full support for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In his statement, Pantami highlighted the issue of sidelining northerners in the mainstream politicking decisions of the LP and its presidential campaign council, which he said were heavily tilted towards the southern region of the country.

With northerners constituting 65% of the voting population in presidential elections, Pantami emphasized the urgency for change and the need for fair representation of all regions in the country.

This move by Pantami and his supporters is a major blow to the LP and its presidential aspirations, and is a clear indication of the dissatisfaction among certain sections of the country with the party’s approach and policies.
