Labour Party (LP) in Oyo State has adopted Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its candidate for the March 11 gubernatorial election.

The LP chairman, Sadiq Atayese, announced this decision during a news conference held in Ibadan on Sunday.

According to Mr Atayese, the LP’s Working Committee believes that Governor Makinde is a candidate with character, competence, and capacity, who is capable of serving the interests of the citizens of Oyo State.

He also noted that LP candidates should be voted for during the state assembly elections.

Mr Atayese further stated that given the results of the February 25 presidential election and the current political realities in the state, it is clear that no single party can win the upcoming gubernatorial election alone.

He called for parties and their candidates to form alliances with candidates of similar ideology in the interest of the citizens.

LP in Oyo State has decided to work with Governor Makinde, whose ideology aligns with theirs in terms of security, infrastructural development, food security, education, and human capital development.

Mr Atayese highlighted the governor’s achievements in the health sector, including the establishment of Primary Healthcare Centres in every ward, as well as his innovative ideas in the establishment of the Park Management System, which has been emulated by other states.

LP in Oyo State evaluated various governorship candidates for the March 11 election based on their character, competence, capacity, and compassion for the people.

Governor Makinde was found to excel in these areas, and LP in Oyo State has therefore decided to support his re-election bid for another four years of development.
