Kyle Walker gets the short end of the stick after England draw

Everybody hates Kyle it would seem…

England vice-captain Kyle Walker faced harsh criticism on social media following his post-match interview after England’s 1-1 draw with Denmark. The draw, which saw England drop valuable points, came after an early lead courtesy of Harry Kane’s 64th goal for his country in the 18th minute.

Despite the strong start, the Three Lions failed to maintain their momentum, mirroring their performance against Serbia on Sunday. Morten Hjulmand equalized with a stunning strike before the end of the first half, and England’s play became increasingly sloppy. This lapse meant Gareth Southgate’s squad missed the opportunity to secure their spot at the top of the group with a game to spare.

In his interview with the BBC, Walker emphasized England’s position at the top of the group and the need to manage games effectively in tournament football. “We’re top of the group. We know we can do better. Sometimes in tournament football you have to manage the game,” Walker stated.

However, fans on social media did not share Walker’s optimism. Criticism poured in, questioning his assessment of the game. One fan wrote, “Kyle Walker just said that people want to see the team win 3, 4 or 5 nil, but that’s not football. He plays for Manchester City.” Another remarked, “Kyle Walker is rattled.”

Others were more direct in their disapproval. “Kyle Walker, that was horrific,” commented a third user, while another fumed, “That Kyle Walker interview shows the mentality of this squad. S****.” One particularly scathing comment read, “That post match interview from Kyle Walker is the strangest thing I’ve ever seen, he’s got no clue just yapping.” A final critique noted, “When you listen to that Kyle Walker interview, it’s as if the England players spent the entire build-up thinking of how they’d defend themselves when they failed to win.”

Despite the draw, England remains at the top of their group with four points from two games, two points clear of both Denmark and Slovenia. Their final group match against Slovenia at the RheinEnergieStadion on Tuesday offers a chance to secure the top spot and progress to the round of 16, scheduled for 30 June, with a victory.N
