EFCC arrests Kirikiri controller over fake medical report used to release convicted fraudster
Emmanuel Oluwaniyi, the controller of Kirikiri Maximum Prison is in the net of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for his role in allowing a convicted internet fraudster, to receive treatment outside the prison.
The convicted fraudster, Hope Aroke who is also known as “H.Money” is currently serving a 24-year jail term for masterminding a mega scam to the tune of over $1 million from prison, using a network of accomplices.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the convict had access to the internet and mobile phone in detention.
Also arrested alongside the Kirikiri controller was Hemeson Edwin, head of the medical center at Kirikiri Prison, who allegedly gave an exaggerated medical report that warranted the referral for Aroke to be treated outside the facility.
In a statement, Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the anti-graft agency, said the duo were arrested on Monday.
The arrest of the top prison officials comes after TheCable published an undercover investigation on how some inmates at Ikoyi Prison, now Correctional Centre, bribe their way through.
