Killers of US-based Nigerian prince after collecting N10m ransom

Police officials in Edo State have announced the arrest of some suspects connected to the kidnapping and killing of Eloniyo Dennis Abuda, a United States-based Edo prince.

Dennis was reportedly abducted on Saturday, January 30, but was later found dead after his family paid N10 million ransom to his abductors. The police spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, told Channels TV that the hoodlums were arrested by operatives of the anti-kidnapping and cybercrimes unit in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters.

Nwabuzor also disclosed that following the recovery of the body, the arrested hoodlums have been giving useful information that can help with the investigation. Meanwhile, Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state said the security challenges facing the country should prompt the Buhari-led federal government to permit Nigerians to carry licenced guns to defend themselves. Ishaku made the statement on Tuesday, February 3, in reaction to the kidnapping and subsequent killing of a local government chairman in the state by gunmen.

According to Channels TV, the governor stated that the insecurity challenges in the country have worsened to the point that Nigerians need to adopt a new method of security. In another news, Dennis Amachree has described the federal government’s silence on insecurity across the country as unpalatable, with the former State Security Service (SSS) boss saying things are going the wrong way.

Amachree, who served as assistant director of the SSS, made this known on Thursday, February 4, when he appeared on Channels TV. The former state security agent said the country must restructure if there should be a move in the right direction. He similarly suggested that the government must tackle the problem of proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
