Kill 2 birds with 1 egg, Liverpool drop interest in 2 players
A move apparently born out of a need for self-preservation on the part of Liverpool.
Liverpool end their pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, as the club has reportedly dropped out of the race to sign the talented Dutchman.
This development comes just hours after Liverpool also ended their interest in Khephren Thuram, as manager Jurgen Klopp refocuses his attention on acquiring a No.6 type of player for the midfield.
Liverpool has been active in the transfer market, already securing the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer. Szoboszlai joined the club on a five-year contract after Liverpool triggered his £60 million release clause, strengthening their midfield options.
While Klopp remains keen to add another midfielder to his squad, it now appears unlikely to be Thuram, with the club deciding to halt their pursuit of the Nice midfielder following Szoboszlai’s arrival. Instead, Liverpool is in search of a player in the No.6 role to bolster their midfield ranks.
In addition to ending their interest in Thuram, Liverpool has also withdrawn from the race for Bayern’s Ryan Gravenberch. The 21-year-old midfielder has struggled to secure a regular place in Thomas Tuchel’s team since his move from Ajax last summer.
Consequently, he has been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena in search of consistent first-team football. However, Liverpool is no longer in contention for his signature.
Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed the news on Twitter, stating that Liverpool is “definitely” out of the race for Gravenberch, despite holding talks with the player’s management. Plettenberg did emphasize that Bayern would be open to selling the Dutchman this summer if a suitable offer is presented.
With the pursuit of Gravenberch concluded, Liverpool has turned its attention to Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia. The 19-year-old has emerged as one of Klopp’s priority targets, and Liverpool is prepared to compete with Arsenal and Manchester United for his signature.
As the summer transfer window progresses, Liverpool continues to reshape its squad, aiming to strengthen various areas of the team.
While Gravenberch is no longer part of their plans, the focus now shifts to securing the services of Romeo Lavia, whose potential arrival could provide a significant boost to Liverpool’s midfield options.
