Kidnapped Zamfara Varsity students regain freedom

In a significant breakthrough, ‘nine’ of the abducted female students from the Federal University in Gusau, Zamfara State, have regained their freedom from captivity.

The abduction, which occurred on September 22, 2023, saw suspected terrorists raiding the off-campus hostels at Sabon Gidan Community, near the Federal University, Gusau, taking a total of twenty-four female students and three male labourers registered with GUPRAN Engineering Services Ltd.

Fortunately, less than 72 hours after the abduction, the troops of the Nigerian Army successfully rescued 13 of the victims along with the labourers. However, ‘nine’ students and one labourer, Naomi, remained in captivity.

Jacob Hassan, Naomi’s father, confirmed the recent development of the students’ release during a telephone conversation with AIT News.

The rescued students have reportedly been transported to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) where they are currently receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital. It’s understood that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, played a pivotal role in the negotiation process leading to their release.

Reports from AIT News indicate that some of the freed students have been able to communicate with their parents, bringing a sense of hope and relief to their families.

Additionally, family members of two of the rescued students, Nasira and Zainab, have confirmed the positive development, marking a significant step towards the safe return of all abducted individuals.
