Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr passes on at 47

The eldest son of late playwright and Ogoni activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr has died in a London hospital, family sources revealed.

He slipped into coma on Monday after suffering a stroke on Saturday. He was placed on life support, but he died on Tuesday evening. According to the source, he had been in and out of the hospital after suffering from a lung-related disease.

Saro-Wiwa, who served as aide to ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, schooled at Stancliffe Hall School and Tonbridge School in England and then at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies.

He was editor of the UK Guardian’s New Media Lab, developing content for the newspaper’s online edition.

He would have been 48 on November 28.
