American rapper, singer, and fashion designer Kanye West has filed to legally change his name to his long-time two-lettered nickname, ‘Ye’ — with no middle or last names.

The businessman and father of four filed the documents on Tuesday at Los Angeles superior court.

Based on the documents dated August 11, the eccentric rapper cited “personal reasons” for getting rid of his full name ‘Kanye Omari West’ in favour of his long-time two-lettered nickname.

The 44-year-old singer had in September 2018 hinted about the name change on Twitter.

“The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE,” he had written.

The news of West’s name change comes a few days before the expected release of ‘Donda’, his 10th album, named after his late mother.

He had recently staged an album party at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and hosted about 42,000 fans who paid between $20 to $100 per ticket.

Kanye West had separated from Kim Kardashian, his estranged model wife Kim Kardashian after she filed for divorce in February — about seven years after they tied the knot.

The pair later agreed to have joint custody of their four children — North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 2 — with neither of them needing spousal support.

Kanye West is one of the world’s best-selling music artists, with more than 160 million records sold worldwide. He has won a total of 22 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most awarded artists of all time.
