Kano Government confimrs purchase of 41 exotic SUVs for lawmakers

The Kano State Government has announced that it will buy 41 “exotic” SUVs for the State House of Assembly members. Each one will cost N68 million.

The State Government agreed, through the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, that it is the politicians’ right to get cars that work,.

According to the Daily Post, reliable sources say that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf didn’t want to buy cars for the lawmakers at first, but the leaders of the Assembly convinced him by saying that the lawmakers needed new cars.

It is said that the politicians have already gotten the SUVs, which cost about N2.6 billion.

According to the Chief of Staff, the governor asked that the contractor be told that payments would have to be made over time because of the state of the economy.

Sagagi said the governor’s actions come from respecting the rights and duties of the government and caring about the well-being of all parts of the government and the people of the state.

An unnamed senior politician supported the SUV purchases by saying that the cars are necessary for review tasks and other parliamentary duties, even though the country is having economic problems.

In response to controversy trailing the purchase of the vehicles, he said, ‘’Why are you making a mountain out of a mole hill on the purchase of new vehicles for lawmakers? Previous administrations in the state did the same thing.
