JUST IN: Lagos Police clash with Okada Riders

Policemen in Ojo Local Government Area, Lagos State have allegedly caused a scene in an attempt to sanction commercial motorcyclists.

 

This emanates from an announcement by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday concerning total ban on the motorcyclists.

 

The ban was to take effect on the from June 1 in six local government areas of the state.

 

According to Topnaija sources, Onireke Police operatives had seized some commercial motorcycles along Mile 2-Badagry expressway.

 

Resistance and attempts to by the motorcyclists to free some of their members reportedly caused uproar in the Ojo area.

 

The riders are also said to have set fire in the middle of the road as motorists abandoned their vehicles to seek safety.

 

The clash has also caused heavy traffic on both lanes of the road.

 

The policemen fired shots sporadically into the air to foil the commotion by the commercial motorcycle operators, who retaliated by throwing them stones.

 

Sources claim that the anti-riot policemen and soldiers have been deployed to the area to restore normalcy.
