Jurgen Klopp should replace Southgate as England Coach — Simon Jordan
TalkSport co-host and former owner of Crystal Palace, Simon Jordan has touted Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp to replace underfire England boss, Gareth Southgate in the position.
The position of England national team’s head coach has been one that has attracted a lot of speculations in recent weeks, with rumors circulating on a potential exit of Gareth Southgate from the job.
England Women’s national team coach, Sarina Weigman was even rumored for the position after the Women’s World Cup tournament some weeks ago, with Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola even speculated to be up for the job.
Going into the international week for international football games, the England boss has earned a lot of criticisms from the England fans over his selection of Kalvin Phillips and Manchester United’s Harry Maguire into the Three Lions’ set up and the exclusion of West Ham United’s James Ward-Prowse in the team’s call up. This has led to a lot of pundits such as Simon Jordan eyeing a potential exit for the England boss.
In a latest segment of the talkSport podcast between Jim White and Simon Jordan, the pair discussed the possibility of Southgate leaving the managerial job of England after the upcoming Euro 2024.
According to Jim White, the FA are said to be conscious of the uncertainty surrounding Gareth Southgate in the job, and have began holding discussions about Southgate’s potential replacement.
Asked on his ideal candidate for the England job, Simon Jordan said;
“I think it’s time for a change,”
“Should it be an English man? In an ideal world we would like an Englishman to be the manager of England. If he is not capable of it, we have to look at what’s best in class for us at international level.
“If i was sat there and I was in charge of the England set up and I was thinking about this connundrum…
“In some fantasy world of choosing England managers, Klopp.” Simon Jordan said.
“It wouldn’t make a difference to me whether he was a German. It wouldn’t make a difference if we won the world cup or Euros,” Jordan defended when questioned if hiring a German to be England manager was ideal, knowing the rivalry between both nations in the international stage.
