Johnny Depp requests DNA test on faeces left on his bed
Actor Johnny Depp approached the London High Court sitting on Wednesday, July 15, requesting a DNA test to be carried out on faeces left in his bed, to determine whether it was that of his former wife, Amber Heard.
Depp, 57, accused his ex-wife Heard or ‘one of her friends’ of defecating in their marital bed in 2016, and in court on Wednesday, the defecation incident was brought up in his libel trial against The Sun’s publisher News Group Newspapers (NGN).
NGN’s defence lawyer, Sasha Wass QC in court suggested it wasn’t her poo, saying it could have been one of Heard’s dogs named Pistol and Boo.
Depp is suing NGN and The Sun for a 2018 article in which he was called a “wife beater” , allegations which he sternly denies.
Vargas produced several pictures of the poo (pictured below) that was found in the former couple’s bed, which Depp has said was the reason he decided to end their marriage.
Heard, 34, has said the poo must have been done by their dogs, but Depp suspects that it was left there by her or one of her friends.
During Wednesday’s trial at the High Court in London, Wass asked Depp’s estate manager Kevin Murphy about the defecation incident.
Wass said: ‘You were aware that, as far as Mr Depp’s dog Boo was concerned, Boo had a number of difficulties with toilet training.’
To which Mr Murphy replied: ‘I did, but not in the bed. I don’t think it was about the training, it was about the follow through.’
Wass then read out a chat between Ms Heard and Mr Murphy in October 2014, in which Mr Murphy suggested putting Boo with a dog trainer which he said was a ‘good training environment’.
Ms Heard in the text replied: ‘I’m worried she’s got brain damage. She can’t seem to predict or control when she uses the bathroom.
‘Last night she s*** ON Johnny while he was sleeping, like all over him. Not exaggerating.’
Ms Wass asked if Mr Murphy reported the faeces in the bed to Johnny Depp after his housekeeper, Hilda Vargas, had informed him about it.
Mr Murphy replied in court: ‘I believe at the time Johnny was busy, had a busy day or the day after, and I sent a photo to his security person who was with him, Sean Bett, and he showed it to Johnny.’
Ms Wass asked about Mr Murphy’s witness statement, in which he said he later spoke to Mr Depp who was ‘sullen and disgusted’.
Mr Murphy also said in his statement: ‘At that stage, I believe he suggested getting the faeces DNA tested to see where they had come from.’
Ms Wass then read out a text from Mr Depp shortly after the incident which read: ‘It brings a smile to the face.’
According to her, Mr Depp said in another message that ‘my wife left a whopper poop on my bed’ and ‘then he says “Amber Turd”’.
She said: ’In fact, it appears from those texts that Mr Depp found the subject quite amusing.’
Mr Murphy speaking in court replied: ‘I believe he is being sarcastic, I would not agree with that, no.’
Ms Wass then asked Mr Murphy if Mr Depp had a ‘slightly lavatorial sense of humour’. to which Mr Murphy replied in the negative .
On Tuesday’s court session, Ms Vargas, the housekeeper, said that she believed the faeces in the bed was from a human saying she didn’t believe it came from the two dogs, Pistol and Boo, as the pets couldn’t climb the bed on their own.
Ms Vargas also revealed that both dogs had a number of accidents on the floor, but they had never been known to defecate in the bed – and that neither could ‘jump on to the bed on their own’.
Ms Wass then said to Ms Vargas that ‘because you had never seen or had any experience of the dogs defecating in the bed, you formed the view that it was human faeces that was in the bed’.
Ms Vargas replied: ‘Yes, because of the size,’
Ms Vargas also told the court she arrived at the penthouse at around 3pm, adding: ‘Those faeces were fresh … from the night or from the early morning.’
July 15 made it the seventh day of court proceedings since the libel case started.
