Jay Z nominated for 2017 songwriters hall of fame

Jay-Z has been one of the most popular rappers for the past twenty years, he has written multiple hits and has sold millions of albums.

Now he is being recognized for his contribution to music, as he receives his first nomination for the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

According to Access Hollywood, if inducted into the hall of fame, he will become the first rapper to ever join the organization of talented musicians. The Associated Press obtained a list of nominees on Thursday, one day before the official announcement.

In order to be eligible for a nomination the songwriter, would have to have been writing hit singles for at least 20 years. Jay-Z dropped his classic debut album, “Reasonable Doubt,” back in 1996.

He would go on to have multiple hit singles throughout the past twenty years, which include, “Dirt Off Your Shoulders,” “99 Problems,” and “Hard Knock Life.”

Eligible members can vote for a total of three non-performing songwriters and two performing songwriters up until December 16th. Five songwriters or songwriting groups will be inducted next year in June.

Other nominees include Madonna, Babyface, Kool & The Gang, Sly Stone and many others.
