Jay Jay Okocha Reacts to Senegal’s World Cup Win

On Friday’s world cup group stages fixture, it was all about redeeming Africa’s image by the Senegal team in their second group stage match, which former Super Eagles legend, had quite the words for in his punditry analysis.

Austin Jay Jay Okocha, a former captain of the Super Eagles, praised Senegal after their 3-1 victory over Qatar in their second Group A encounter of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday.

As a result of goals from Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou, and Bamba Dieng, the Teranga Lions defeated the home nation.

The Netherlands defeated Senegal 2-0 in their opening match of the competition.

After the Netherlands and Ecuador drew 1-1, the group is suddenly quite open, and any of the three teams—Senegal, Ecuador, or Holland—could advance to the next stage.

“Finally we’ve got our first win as Africans at the World Cup. It was a good win, well deserved,”Jay Jay Okocha told SuperSport.

“They had a bit of a hiccup after conceding that goal but I think they controlled the match and they were lucky coming up against Qatar who I think do not have enough to really punish these Senegalese teams when they make mistakes.

“Credit to Senegal for getting their first win.”
