Javier Tebas lists conditions for Messi to return to Barcelona

The President of La Liga, Javier Tebas, has stated that Lionel Messi will have to earn less than his current wages at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) if he wants to return to his former club, Barcelona. Messi’s current contract with PSG is set to expire this summer, and there has been growing speculation about his next move.

The 33-year-old Argentine forward, who is widely regarded as one of the best footballers of all time, has had a tumultuous relationship with PSG in recent weeks. He was suspended by the French club following an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia, which has reportedly strained his relationship with the club.

In light of these developments, many fans and pundits have been wondering if Messi might return to Barcelona, where he played for 21 years before leaving for PSG in 2021. However, according to Tebas, any such move would have to come with a salary cut.

“If Barça signs Leo Messi, his salary will be less than what it is at Paris Saint-Germain. His return is now conditional on selling players,” Tebas said in a recent interview.

“I think that Barça will get a good amount from selling players this summer.”

Tebas’s comments suggest that Barcelona would have to make significant financial adjustments to accommodate Messi’s wages. Barcelona is already facing financial difficulties, and adding Messi’s high wages to the club’s payroll could be a challenge. According to reports, Messi currently earns around €71 million ($85 million) per year at PSG.

Barcelona fans will undoubtedly be hoping that the club can find a way to bring Messi back to the Camp Nou, but it remains to be seen whether they can afford to do so. With Messi’s contract expiring soon and his future uncertain, the football world will be watching closely to see what happens next.
