James Maddison brutally mocks Liverpool player over Spurs tie
In a light-hearted moment on England duty, James Maddison took pleasure in reminding Liverpool star, Trent Alexander Arnold of the 2-1 loss to his Tottenham shortly before the international break.
Tottenham vs. Liverpool has over the weeks become a game that has resulted in a lot of memes being generated amidst online rants from Liverpool fans and rival fans as well.
The match in question saw Tottenham Hotspur emerge victorious with a dramatic 2-1 win over Liverpool, thanks to a last-minute Joel Matip own-goal.
However, the game was marred by a VAR error that led to the disallowance of a legitimate Luis Diaz goal. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp subsequently called for a replay of the match, but the idea didn’t gain traction.
Although talks of a replay had subsided, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) introduced new VAR rules for the following weekend’s matches, addressing the controversy that had arisen at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Both Tottenham and Liverpool have since played league matches, with Liverpool drawing 2-2 against Brighton, which also featured VAR controversy.
During the international break, players from Tottenham and Liverpool have come together for England duty, with James Maddison and Trent Alexander-Arnold both named in the England squad for upcoming games.
Before the England vs. Australia friendly match on Friday, James Maddison took a light-hearted jab at Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Maddison posted a picture of himself looking up at Alexander-Arnold, who appears to be gesturing in the image.
The caption accompanying the picture read, “Still asking for a replay,” with Maddison adding laughing face and heart emojis to convey the playful nature of the remark
