Subject Combination / JAMB UTME Requirements
In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Geology under the Faculty of Sciences in the above Universities include;
» Any three of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS:
(1) UNIBEN accepts Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology. Does not accept Geography.
(2) UNILAG, EBSU, FUTO, KWASU, UNIPORT, DELSU, UNILORIN and UNICAL require Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(3) OOU – Chemistry is compulsory and does not accept Geography as UTME subject in lieu of Biology.
(4) AJAYI requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology.
(5) FUTA accepts Chemistry, Maths, Physics/Biology as UTME Subject.
(6) ABU requires Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology.
(7) WESTERN-DEL requires any three of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography.
(8) OSUSTECH requires Mathematics, Physics and either Chemistry, Biology or Geography.
(9) SALEM requires Chemistry, Physics and either of Biology, Geography or Mathematics.
(10) UNN requires any three of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology.
(11) UNIUYO does not require Biology but Physics.
(12) NDU requires the five ‘O’ level credit passes in not more than two sittings.
O’level Requirements
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Geology;
You require;
Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and any other subject.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS:
(1) AJAYI, UNILORIN and UNIBEN accept ‘O’ level credit passes in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and do not accept Geography.
(2) MAUTECH, ESUTECH, OOU and AAUA require Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics as UTME subjects.
(3) EBSU requires five SSCE credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in not more than two sittings.
(4) UNIZIK accepts ‘Pass’ in English Language.
(5) EBSU, UNICAL and UNN require ‘five O’ level credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. EBSU does not accept physically challenged candidates because of the strenuous nature and the requirement of transversing difficult terrains and mountainous areas.
(6) EKSU accepts a pass in English Language for candidates who have distinction in Physics or Mathematics.
(7) OSUSTECH and UNIJOS require SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Geography.
(8) UNIBADAN requires 5 or 6 ‘O’ level credit passes at one or two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and one of the following: Geography, Further/Mathematics, Economics and Technical Drawing.
(9) UNIPORT does not accept credit in Geography in lieu of Biology.
(10) KSU, UNIPORT, FUTO and GOMSU require credit pass in Physics as the fifth subject.
(11) ANSU accepts Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology and requires credit in Geography.
(12) DELSU requires credit pass in Physics.
(13) WUSTO requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry & any other relevant subject.
(14) UNIOSUN requires five ‘O’ Level credits in the SSCE including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics to form the core subjects, with credit in any of the following: Biology/Agricultural Science and Geography at not more than two sittings.
(15) ABU requires Five O’ level credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
(16) FUTA requires a minimum of credit pass in five subjects at not more than of two sittings in WASSCE, NECO, GCE ‘O’-level or its equivalent. The credits are required in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and English Language. Credit is also required in Biology or Agric. Science or Geography.
(16) WESTERN-DEL requires five credit passes including English Language, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.
(17) NDU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Geography.
(18) FUTMINNA requires at least a pass in Physics.
(19) OSUSTECH and KWASU require credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Geography.
(20) UNILAG requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
(21) NDU accepts HSC, ND passes in any two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Geography.
(22) BASU and UNN require five O’ level credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
(23) BASU accepts Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.
(24) UNIUYO does not require Biology but Physics.
Direct Entry Requirements
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Geology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
(i) Two ‘A’ level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Geography.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS:
(1) UNIZIK accepts A/L passes in Geography and HND (credit) in Mining Engineering.
(2) UNIZIK accepts ND credit in Biology/ Agricultural Science and Chemistry into 100 level.
(3) UNILAG, UNIZIK and FUTA require ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. LAGOS in addition candidates must have credit pass in Biology. UNILAG in addition requires very good passes in the following JUPEB subjects: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, candidates must have credit pass in O/Level Biology.
(4) UNIBEN and OAU does not accept ‘A’ level Geography.
(5) UNIPORT – No Direct Entry.
(6) UNILORIN requires ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and Physics plus ‘O’ level credit in Mathematics and Biology.
(7) EBSU accepts HND, NCE and ND with a minimum of Merit and Upper credit respectively in the relevant fields.
(8) MAUTECH accepts two ‘A’ level passes from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Geology.
(9) AJAYI and UNIBADAN accept ND (upper Credit) in Geology and related fields.
(10) UNILORIN and UNIBADAN do not accept HND in Mining Engineering.
(11) OAU accepts HND (upper credit).
(12) FUTMINNA accepts NCE (credit),ND/HND lower credit plus Five O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and any other Science subject and at least a pass in Physics is required.
(13) DELSU requires Chemistry and one of Physics/Mathematics/Biology.
(14) AAUA accepts ND (Upper Credit) in Science Engineering or any other relevant discipline.
(15) OOU accepts ND/Professional Certificate in Geology and Mining with a minimum of lower credit.
(16) UNIJOS in addition to the UTME requirements, candidates must have had two ‘A’ level passes to the following subjects:
a) Geology
b) Chemistry
c) Physics
d) Biology and/or Geography. Jos also accepts HND in mining Engineering in addition to the ‘O’ level requirements.
(17) ANSU accepts ND/HND (Lower credit) in any related Science Discipline.
(18) UNIBENIN in addition to UTME requirements accepts:
a) ND (Upper credit) / HND (lower credit) in Science Laboratory Technology, Mining or other relevant fields.
b) NCE (Overall merit) with credit pass in Biology or Chemistry.
(19) FUTA accepts ND (Upper Credit) in Geology, Mineral Resources or Mining Engineering or ‘A’ level passes or its equivalent in at least two science subjects including Chemistry and Mathematics.
(20) Two ‘A’ level passes or equivalents in Chemistry, Physics and Biology are required in addition to (a) above OR ND (Geology/Geo-mining) Upper Credit.
(21) WUSTO accepts:
a) Two “A” level passes in any of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics and any other relevant subject.
b) Upper Credit passes in ND in addition to 5 Credits at WASC/GCE O’L / SSCE (or its equivalent) may be considered.
(22) LAUTECH accepts A’ Level Passes in Physics, and Mathematics OR ND with Upper Credit/HND in Physics, Geology or Geosciences (plus UTME requirements) may be considered for admission into 200 level.
(23) UNIBADAN accepts Two ‘A’ level subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Geography and any other Science subjects or ND Geology Upper Credit. UNIBADAN does not accept Geography as a UTME subject.
(24) OAU accepts ND Geology with a least Upper Credit.
(25) UNIOSUN accepts two ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. A minimum of Lower Credit in ND in Science Laboratory Technology (Geology).
(26) UNN accepts in addition to UTME requirements GCE Advanced Level passes or its equivalent in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; or ND (Upper Credit), or HND (Lower Credit) in Geology or Geological Technology for admission into a four-year programme in Geology or Geology/Physics.
(27) WESTERN-DEL accepts:
a) Two ‘A’ Level passes from Geography, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
b) ND in Mining Engineering, Geology, Mineralogy.
(28) UNICAL does not accept A’ level pass in Geography and Biology.
(29) KWASU accepts HND with lower credit in the relevant field.
(30) OSUSTECH require two A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics or Geography.
(31) UNICAL requires two A’ level passes from Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry in addition to O’ level requirements.
(32) FUTO requires at least two ‘A’ Level passes not below Grade C from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Geography and Land Surveying. It also accepts ND/HND (Upper Credit) in relevant fields. Candidates must in addition meet UTME ‘O’ Level requirements. It does not accept First Degree and NCE.
(33) BUK does not accept NCE.
(34) BASU accepts IJMB/A Level/GCE A Level Credit passes in any 3 of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. National Diploma (ND) with atleast Lower Credit in Geology from a recognised Polytechnic. The candidate must also have the 5 O’Level requirements in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agric Science and Physics
