The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) on Thursday appealed to Gov Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, to provide relief materials to affected fire victims, as they believe it will help to cushion the effects of the inferno on the victims of the community.

In a statement signed by IYC Information Officer, Lugard Izuokumor, said he is not happy with the manner the Delta State Government abandoned the victims without relief materials.

He urged the affected victims to be strong and hopeful.

While he appealed to the DG of the National Emergency Management Agency to also provide relief materials for the victims to ameliorate the effects of the inferno on them.

The appeal comes after several persons were made homeless as fire razed over 60 houses in Egbemene Island (Fenigbene) Community in the Ogbe-Warri Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Details as to the cause of the fire were still sketchy at the time of this report.

Our correspondent reports that some of the affected victims are now domiciled in churches and primary school buildings as their properties were completely razed by the fire.
