Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State supports Peter Obi’s comment on Nigeria receiving grains from war-torn Ukraine, calling it shameful.
During a recent statement, Bago emphasized the embarrassment of relying on another country for food despite the vast land resources available.
Bago made this statement during the Leadership Conference and Award ceremony at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
In a recent development, the Ukrainian government provided 25,000 tonnes of wheat as emergency food aid to 1.3 million vulnerable individuals in the North-East region, in response to increasing inflation and food price surges.
Expressing his disappointment, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), described it as a national embarrassment that Nigeria is receiving food aid from war-torn Ukraine.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Bago echoed Obi’s sentiment that Nigeria should not be in poverty or rely on food aid from Ukraine.

Gov. Bago said in this video "My Boss (referring to Peter Obi), you are very right about what you have said, we have no reason to be poor". And on the other hand Bago is walking the talk!
Imagine Borno state (at war) sending food and grains to Benue state. That's exactly what… pic.twitter.com/qWJEYnW8wQ
