It’s Sad I Never Got A Chance to—Thiago Silva Retires

Brazil came into the world cup tournament looking the part of the proverbial favorites to lift the trophy, but for some reason fate and chance had other ideas, perhaps to make sure Thiago Silva never had a chance to claim a world cup medal?

The world may never know why, but in an emotional interview given by Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva, this world cup may be Silva’s swan song to the Brazilian national team.

After Brazil’s elimination from the World Cup in Qatar, Chelsea star Thiago Silva has decided to hang up his international boots.

The 38-year-old watched helplessly as Brazil lost 4-2 to Croatia in a penalty shootout on Friday, despite being heavily favored to win the championship.

The former PSG superstar stated that he would now aspire to win the trophy in any other capacity with the national team, whether as a coach or in any other position.

Brazil took the lead in extra time thanks to Neymar, and it appeared as though the South Americans would easily win the match when Bruno Petkovic scored with just a few seconds remaining in regulation.

Silva told beIN Sports:

“Sadly as a player, I am not going to get to lift this trophy. Who knows if in the future I will get the chance in another role. It’s difficult. But despite the sadness, life needs to move on.”

Brazil on their part were minutes away from glory, knocking out Croatia and getting a berth into the semi-final to face Argentina when Neymar put the team up ahead a minute to half time of extra time.

However, the god of Argentina seemingly on the side of Croatia, deemed it fit the Croatians came back into the game to eventually steal a winner on penalties.
