Gareth Southgate resigns as England coach

Euro 2024 heartbreak hits hard for England head coach, Gareth Southgate who has announced his decision to resign from his role as Three Lions boss after failing to lead the team to European glory.

This is just days after the England national team fell in a 2-1 defeat to Spain in Germany after the Englishman had led the team to 2 consecutive Euros final.

The announcement which came on Tuesday, came courtesy of a statement released by Gareth Southgate in which the football manager had some emotional words to reveal his decision to quit the role. In quote, he stated;

“As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all. But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter. I’m leaving my role.”

The Three Lions boss ever since his appointment as the England head coach, had faced a lot of criticisms from the press and fans, with some calling for his removal at some point in time.

Gareth Southgate has since managed to lead England to knockout stages of Euros and World Cup tournaments, most remarkably the 2018 World Cup semi-final where the Three Lions fell to eventual winners France.

Contrary to the criticisms on the Englishman, Southgate boasts of an impressive winning ratio since his appointment as England’s national team head coach.
