Chukwuma Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has dedicated his victory in the 2021 Anambra Governorship Election to three policemen killed when he was attacked by gunmen in April 2021 during a town hall meeting in his hometown in Isuofia in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

He also has described his victory at the Anambra State governorship election as the will of God.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday declared Soludo winner of the Anambra election after winning 19 out of 21 local governments in the State.

Soludo who contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured 112, 229 votes, twice more than his closest rival – PDP’s Ozigbo who polled 53,807 votes.

The other two frontline contenders – Uba and Ubah scored 43,285 and 21,261 votes respectively.

Giving his acceptance speech after the announcement, the governor-elect described the feat as the will of God.

“Let me say that with utmost humility and gratitude to God, I accept the result of the 2021 Anambra governorship election, as declared by INEC.

“And this victory reflects the supreme will of the Almighty God and the overwhelming sacred mandate of the people. This is a divine journey whose time has come” Soludo said.

“At this moment we must remember and must continue to remember all those who died during the course of this moment, especially the three policemen who were killed by unknown gunmen during our town hall meeting with youths in my ward. May God continue to grant their soul eternal rest,” he said.

Soludo, whose walk to victory was paved with stony challenges including legal battles and intra-party squabbles, thanked the judiciary for standing tall.

Soludo said his victory in the election was a result of his perseverance in the last 12 years even as he thanked the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano; the leadership of APGA, party faithful, and Anambra people for their love and support which led to his victory at the poll.
