It’s An Insult—Wike On Atiku Succeeding Buhari

The hot fumes blow on Nigeria’s political scene as Governor Nyesom Wike comes out to question his party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in their choice of an Atiku candidacy for president post President Buhari administration.

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike criticized the choice of another Northerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in the midst of his disagreement with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar.

Another Northerner becoming the nation’s leader after President Muhammadu Buhari, according to Wike, is an insult.

He asserted that those pushing for narratives are hurting Nigerians’ sensibilities and do not advance national unity.

According to a statement by Wike’s media assistant, Kelvin Ebiri, the governor spoke on Sunday at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital.

According to Wike:

“You play on people’s intelligence; you say Nigeria is not ripe for muslim-muslim ticket, I agree. But Nigeria is ripe for presidency to remain in one zone? I mean, just look at the insult. You blow hot and cold.”

The governor claimed that by creating Buhari’s successor in 2023, the North would defraud other areas.

“Most of you just sit there; you don’t ask yourselves questions. Somebody continues to sell these kinds of cheap ideas. You don’t ask the person, I agree with what you are saying, but look at what we are saying here.

“Your party wants the presidency to go to the same zone where President Muhammadu Buhari is coming from. Who is cheating who?”

The political divide in Nigeria as a nation is highly understated as the nation remains forever torn on the lines of religion, ethnicity, regional politics, color if taken to a stretch as its politicians remain forever bent on dividing its citizenry along those lines.
