Italy supports Ukraine with 110m euros, bans Russian flights from airspace

Italy has announced that it would support the Ukranian government with an immediate payment of 110 million euros ($120 million).

Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, made the announcement on Sunday via his Twitter account.

According to the Minister, the money is to show solidarity for Ukraine amid the country’s ongoing siege by Russian forces.

He said, “I told my colleague @DmytroKuleba that I have just signed a resolution for the immediate disbursement of 110 million euros to the government of Kiev, as a concrete expression of Italy’s solidarity and support for a people with whom we have a fraternal relationship”.

The Minister also disclosed via tweet on Sunday that Italy would close its airspace to Russia flights, while urging all European Union countries yet to do the same to follow suit.

“Italy has decided to close its airspace to Russia,” he said

“I will support a common action of all EU countries: that the whole EU closes its airspace to Russia”, he added.
