Internet fraudster sentenced to prison for impersonating chinese military personnel

In a recent court ruling, Smart Luter, an individual charged with internet fraud, has been sentenced to one year in prison for impersonation.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Gwagwalada found Luter guilty of posing as a Chinese military personnel to deceive others. Luter, who pleaded guilty, sought leniency during the proceedings.

Presiding Judge Aliyu Shafa handed down the verdict, which includes a fine of N100,000 and the forfeiture of Luter’s Tecno smartphone used in the fraudulent activities to the Federal Government.

The judge emphasized the severity of the offense and urged Luter to abstain from criminal behavior in the future.

Luter, who lacked legal representation, expressed regret for his actions, attributing them to influence from a friend. He pledged to reform and become a law-abiding citizen, acknowledging the negative impact of his actions on society.

Prosecutor Gabrielle Ushie presented evidence showing Luter’s impersonation of a Chinese military personnel named Zhang Yola, resulting in financial gain through deceitful means.

The court found Luter guilty of cheating by impersonation, a violation of the Penal Code.
