Insecurity big Business that pays Government—Bandit exposes

In a country where some are in terror of the rate of insecurity within, there stands a few in privileged positions that stand to profit and make it a business big time.

This comes from the revelation of a bandit kingpin, Abu Sanni who in an interview reveals the benefits of insecurity despite its terror on the society.

Speaking to BBC Africa Eye in Zamfara, Sanni revealed how much of a business banditry has become as he accuses everyone of joining the trade.

The kingpin revealed he had helped in the abduction of school girls in Jangebe, Zamfara in a 50 minute interview with Yusuf Anka in a documentary segment titled ‘The Bandit Warlords of Zamfara’.

Sanni in his reasoning behind the abduction; explained that it was as a revenge plot against the government for sending the military on them. A ransom was then requested of the government in which the government paid N60 million for the girls’ release.

“When the rainy season ended, they sent the military after us. We decided to show the government they should not interfere with our problems. We went to Jangebe and took the students. We wanted to get the government angry.” He said.

“We demanded N300 million but after negotiations, N60 million was paid for their release.

“Because it has become a business. Everyone wants money. That is why things are deteriorating, from the top to the bottom.

“They say when there is insecurity, the government gets the money. Everyone is benefitting. We also get money. Though for our money, blood is split, so it continues.” The kingpin defended.
